Our Church History

   On March 28, 1848, 22 men gathered in the session room of the first Religious Society of Rome in order to organize an Evangelical congregation adopting a constitution and choosing the name, “United German Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Rome.    What would become known by tradition as “The Little German Church” was started in 1849 in a wood-frame building, built on a lot donated by the estate of Dominick Lynch, the founder of Rome. The church underwent renovations to enlarge the building in 1893.    The congregation outgrew its little church and moved to its current location at 215 West Court Street with a dedication ceremony held on April 15, 1928. Renovations to enlarge the facility have been made over the years.  Trinity Church continues to serve Rome area families and beyond sponsoring many programs, activities and events, as well as offering a place to worship. 

Pastor – Karen Marshall

Pastor Karen Marshall was born is Syracuse, New York where she attended Friedens United Church of Christ. She grew up in the church which has always been an important part of her life.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oswego State College and also completed her graduate work there. She taught Spanish for 30 years but throughout those years of teaching she felt her passion in life was also the church.After completing many courses from the lay ministry program of the United Church of Christ she attended CRDS (New York School of Ministry). She did all this while raising two children and continuing to teach.
She retired from teaching and now has become the full time pastor for Trinity Church. This is not her first time serving the congregation at Trinity. During several summers she served the congregation of Trinity while the Pastor was on vacation.
“I am so happy to be back here at Trinity.” To serve this beautiful church is what I feel is my calling.”
